Christina Roe
Everything that you will see on this site is
entirely made of paper. My love affair with
paper began many years ago and from time to
time, I would always come back to this
medium when I wanted to create something. It
wasn't until the early 90s that I began to
seriously develop my interest in paper mache
as an art form. Today, I work mostly in paper  casting low-relief wall art, which is painted
and frequently combined with collage and
some paper mache additions.

The production of paper and has a long
history since it's invention in China at the
beginning of the 2nd century AD. From China,
papermaking spread to Korea and Japan. In
the 8th century Chinese artisans brought the
production techniques to Central Asia and
from there to India and Persia. 13th Century
Italian contributions and improvements to
paper production were substantial and after
that countries such as Spain and Germany
soon were producing paper as well.

Basically cast paper is wet paper pulp
arranged in a form or mold that gives it a
dimensional shape, which after it is dried,
stays that way. Paper mache can be cast or
hand-formed using the same pulp, to which
fillers and glue are added for additional
hardness and strength.

Paper doesn't have to be a flat sheet or plain white. My art includes many shapes, textured
surfaces and is definitely multi-colored. I hope
you enjoy my creations using one of the most
versatile of all art and craft materials...paper.
